April 2023 - things from us
The April was packed with events …. Fundraiser, regatta, our trailer, one helping coach arriving and leaving, work of Head Coach with Masters and Juniors, organization in the Clubhouse and training at the Nathan Benderson Park. See below some of the events of April and we are happy to have you and follow your old team.

Publix 2.0 Fundraiser
…. guess who we found
The month of April started with our second @PUBLIX (THANK YOU) fundraiser. Our flag, ergs and athletes showed up and performed a great show for our team. Six hours of entertainment, handing out Flyers and SSYRP promo and collecting smiles, compliments and more from our community.
We even met one of our former members: Michael Demassa - Good to see you again … and we hope to get you as a subscriber for our team newsletter :-)
Food Trailer is ready to go
After several month of parking in the back of our Clubhouse … our food truck got his makeover and will be present again at the regattas around Florida and beyond. Unfortunately, we needed to spend more than we anticipated … so if you want to help us and would like to see your name or your companies name on the side of our food truck as a supporter - please contact: [email protected]
or you can do a donation here: Support - Sarasota Scullers

Lyn is helping
Our Head Coach Stompo brought in to his support an old friend: Lyn. Stompo met Lyn over ten years ago in Canada at the Canadian Henley Regatta and both became friends. Lyn is a rower from heard and in her late journey into rowing she learned rowing, started coaching, build her own boat, went to Masters World Championships, build an incredible network of rowers around the world and just loves rowing. What more qualification you could ask (though process of our Head Coach) and so Stompo invited her for the month of April and May to help the small team of the Scullers.

Regatta FSRA 1 (sculling)
FSRA Regatta - something new for our Head Coach. Floridas finest at the start … our team grew together in the past 4 month and we decided to give it a shot. After several documentary hurdles and a late drop out we have been able to enter in three events. Youth Women 4x, Youth Man 1x and Youth Man 2x. See our team below
… our Team +Coaches and Eddy (son of Head Coach)
Our seven athletes - inexperienced - motivated - in age still too much stretched out - but willing to go for the big challenge. All of our boats had to race Heats to qualify for the Final.
Our girls raced their Heat with heart and soul. At the dock - qualified for the Petite Final - all four declared to race the best race ever in the Petite Final. Of course, with a span of 4 years in a boat from 14 (Sydney) to 18 (Caitlin) the experience and possibilities are still in a big range - but the teamwork let them finish the regatta with a great experience and boats behind them.
Leon in his 1x fought and fought in his Heat and just yards before the finish line he had to surrender his A-Final qualification spot. His Petite Final Race was something new for him. He was set as the favorite of the race … a few 100m before the finish line - still 3rd place he started his final sprint … but missed by a little bit the winning spot and finished 2nd. Congrats
Nick and Luke managed the job the best on Saturday and secured a spot in the A-Final. With their 15 years of age, they tried their very best, but it is still an advantage to be older :-) Both did a terrific job - stayed till the end with the field and finished 8th overall. Right by our trailer the team and winner of the race Belem celebrated, and our boys have been able to steal them away for a picture - congrats to all.
