SUMMER CAMP 2023

Summer in Sarasota. The sun is so intense that it seems to sear through the skin. People barely dare to venture out into the streets during the day, opting to stay inside to bask in the air conditioning. But for some, the sun and heat are not a burden, but rather a delight.

The Scullers had always been drawn to the heat. The way it felt on their skin, the way the bodies would react to the scorching rays of the sun, it all made them feel alive. It was as if the heat had a way of awakening something inside of them that they couldn't explain. The Scullers would often spend hours lounging in the sun, feeling the sweat bead on her skin as they soaked up the warmth.

This was the beginning of a wonderful friendship of our Team with the boys and girls who joined us during two Summer Camps.

Halifax 2023 - Daytona Beach

The end of the summer season was celebrated with a racing event at the Halifax Regatta in Daytona Beach. 10 summer athletes made the five-hour journey to Daytona Beach with good preparation and spirit. The Head Coach had found a hotel right on the beach for them, ensuring they got enough rest before the races. Isolda Penney from Canada came along too as assistant coach and Bernhard's support.

Our team proudly wore their new racing uniforms when they arrived just in time for the regatta. They competed together with athletes from Vero Beach and Pensacola in more than 20 races across two days and brought home a medal for each one. To top off the wonderful trip, the parents of our scullers set up a tent outside and provided everyone with fruits, lunch, water and all kinds of food--Thank you!

Banquet 2023

Since 1991, the Sarasota Scullers had celebrated their season with an unbridled enthusiasm. This year, our gracious host Bob Johnson, from our Masters Club SCRC, offered us his sprawling beach house at Casey Key to celebrate our 32nd banquet. About 40 athletes, parents, alumni, and of course the board - including President Kevin - basked in a stunning afternoon with perfect weather and the sublime sundown at the Gulf of Mexico.

The Head Coach, Bernhard Stomporowski, warmly welcomed the first guests at 5 pm while the sound of lapping waves inched closer to the party as evening approached. Under the bright blue sky, everyone held a glass of champagne (or orange juice) in their hand while they experienced an unforgettable celebration of our beloved sport.

Speeches peppered with heartfelt anecdotes and memorable moments were shared by those who had worked so hard for this achievement.

The atmosphere was electric and crackling with excitement as we swapped stories about our various journeys that led us here. The crowning moment of the evening was when we awarded the Hydrow Erg to the winning team amidst thunderous applause.

With joy sparkling in their eyes, each recipient accepted their award while being bathed in adulation from their fellow Scullers. Nostalgia hung thick in the air like a promise of good things yet to come as we walked around Bob's house looking at oversized yearbook pages pinned to every inch of wall space available. Together we reminisced about all of our collective experiences throughout the season while still flying high on tonight's festivities.

KICK-OFF Fall 2023

Thursday the 17th of August the Scullers will have their KICK-OFF Fall meeting at 5pm - location Clubhouse 153 N Tamiami Tr Osprey 34229.

We want to speak about our training, expectations, High School and Middle School Training - what does it take to get scholarships at Universities and our racing during the month till December 2023.
