August 2025 .... end of Summer
School start ... training start ... news

starting season FALL 2025
Summer in Florida gives way to hurricane season, and with it, a new chapter begins for the Scullers. Fresh faces bring fresh energy as our rowers enter their second year with real goals and a deeper understanding of the sport. We welcome Kai, Ella, Shantall, Kiro, and others to our growing family, where camaraderie on land matches intensity on water. Our veterans eagerly embrace these newcomers, even as training intensifies—three-hour sessions from 4 to 7pm, with long-distance rows now standard fare. With October's regatta approaching, I've initiated our first seat races as Head Coach. These internal competitions were overdue, and watching my rowers rise to the challenge fills me with pride.

Join the Scullers
ATTENTION EARTHLINGS (and especially the small ones)! Our middle school rowing squad needs YOU and your weirdly wonderful self. By December's end, the Scullers plan to unleash a mysterious vessel powered by eight misfit middle schoolers upon unsuspecting waters. We're collecting oddballs like rare trading cards—the newly-arrived kid still figuring out which English words are which, the Wednesday Addams of your math class, the dinosaur encyclopedia who can name 37 species before breakfast. While everyone else is chasing footballs, we're chasing something... different. Parents: we can't tell you exactly what happens when these unique minds unite on water, but we promise you'll want front-row seats. Come solve the mystery of who you might become!
Thank you Greg

Greg
About a year ago, when Caitlin Kinsella graduated from the Scullers and our president Kevin stepped down, we found ourselves adrift without leadership. It was Greg Kinsella, Caitlin's father, who steadied our vessel. Like the experienced pilot he is, Greg navigated our club through unfamiliar waters with remarkable precision. He identified our challenges—from termite-damaged clubhouse leases to communication breakdowns—and charted a clear course forward. Where others might have seen insurmountable obstacles, Greg saw only problems awaiting solutions. His patient leadership has restored our structural integrity and renewed our sense of purpose. As Head Coach, I've witnessed our membership flourish under his watchful eye, particularly among our youth rowers—truly our most precious cargo. Thank you, Greg, for your unwavering dedication. We hope to see you soon in one of our Masters Club SCRC boats, where you've earned your place as both captain and crew.
Welcome Pete

Pete Petersen
WELCOME TO OUR NEW PRESIDENT!
August 2025 Dear Scullers Community, It is with great enthusiasm that we welcome Pete Petersen as the new President of the Scullers Club! Pete's journey with us began through his son Kai, a dedicated member of our Middle School team. Last summer, Pete watched with growing curiosity as Kai returned home each day from our summer program with unmistakable excitement. When Kai qualified for the Halifax Regatta, Pete turned it into a family vacation—and discovered the heart of our rowing community firsthand. Standing on the shoreline, Pete witnessed more than just races. He saw his son forming meaningful friendships across age groups, embracing responsibility, and growing through the discipline our sport demands. During this time, Pete connected with our board, forming a particularly strong bond with Roger Redmen. After months of thoughtful conversation and seeing the positive impact rowing had on Kai, Pete has stepped forward to lead our club into its next chapter. Please join us in welcoming President Petersen! Scullers on , Scullers on 3 ... 1, 2, 3, SCULLERS!

First seat racing at SCULLERS
The growth of the Scullers program has delighted our head coach. Every day, more athletes pour into the club, and building competitive boats is the dream of every coach. Yet we recognize that raw talent alone isn't enough. The Scullers program values responsibility, helpfulness, and leadership alongside athletic prowess. We pay special attention to those quieter athletes still finding their voice or place within our community. We refuse to leave these children behind, because we're building not just winners, but thoughtful young people who respect all challenges. Victory that comes at the expense of kindness or teamwork isn't victory at all. Our seat racing evaluates not just speed, but how athletes treat one another—we watch closely for those who lift others up rather than tear them down. Today marked just the beginning of our journey to elevate Scullers kids in character as much as in competition. Pictures and results matter, but how we achieve them matters more. Thank you for your trust.

Viktor, the youngest son of our beloved Head Coach "Stompo," has been thriving as a member of NZone—one of Sarasota's most prestigious and dynamic sports clubs. Under the expert guidance of Coach Wally, a visionary who specializes in cultivating well-rounded young athletes across multiple disciplines, Viktor has been experiencing a transformative athletic education. The friendship between our own Coach "Stompo" and the brilliant Coach Wally blossomed naturally from their shared passion for youth development and athletic excellence. After several inspiring conversations about our community's future, these two remarkable leaders have envisioned something extraordinary: a collaborative partnership between our organizations that will open exciting new doors for all our young athletes. We're thrilled to announce that NZone and the Scullers are embarking on a year-long journey to build meaningful connections and create unprecedented opportunities for cross-training and athletic growth. Our heartfelt gratitude goes to Coach Wally for his generous spirit and open-door policy. Together, we're poised to elevate our children to exceptional levels of physical prowess and athletic versatility that neither organization could achieve alone!
